The history of Herzen normal university can be traced back to the Royal orphanage founded by the famous enlightenment thinker and educator Ivan Ivanovich betzkoy (1704-1795) in the mid-18th century. Ivan betzkoy is the illegitimate son of Marshal trubetzkoy, Duke of Russia. He received a good education from childhood. He worshipped French Enlightenment philosophy and was called "the most benevolent idealist" at that time. In the middle of the 18th century, in order to enrich the country and strengthen the army, Peter the Great's enthusiasm for establishing schools and developing education had been exhausted, and a large number of so-called "arithmetic schools" for the common people were closed. By 1744, there were only five such schools in the country. At that time, it was stipulated that only the children of the monks or the nobles could go to a religious school. As for the education of businessmen, peasants and women, there was no agenda in Russia at that time. The "education" they can get is to do heavy labor for their country. The only civilian schools left are also in poor condition. Today, Herzen National Normal University is the largest university in Russia.
